Padre Island National Seashore

There are a few places in the US that you can camp on the beach with an RV and the Padre Island National Seashore in Corpus Christi, Texas is one of them. We were there in the off season so it wasn’t very busy. It was a beautiful day when we got there, but the next few days were supposed to be rainy, windy and they were having unusually high tides due to storm surges. So sadly we only got to spend one night on the beach and then we moved to the campground nearby. There are two state campgrounds, Malaquite Campground and Bird Island Basin. Both are first-come, first-served and there are no hook ups at either campground. There is water available and there is a dump station at the Malaquite campground area. When we were there in January of 2023 the Malaquite campground $14 per night and the Bird Island Campground is $8 per night. Malaquite is where we stayed and we really liked it there. You could still see the Atlantic Ocean from the campground over a dune, but were a little protected from the wind. You are on the Gulf of Mexico at Bird Island Basin.

You do have to pay for the beach/primitive camping, it is included in the price of the park entrance fee. The fee is $25 for 7 days which includes overnight camping. You can use your America the Beautiful National Park pass to cover the entrance fee if you have one.
